George Chapman Obituary

George L. Chapman, Sr. VANCE - Mr. George Lucas Chapman, Sr., 77, of Vance, husband of Helen Lee Chapman, died August 28, 2011 at the Hospice of Charleston in Mt. Pleasant. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church, Elloree with Pastor Brian Fields and Pastor Don Bell officiating. Burial will follow in the Santee Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Justin Dean, Sherrill Lee, Richie Lee, Bryan Chapman, Steven Stackley, and Allen Stackley. Mr. Chapman was born in Chesterfield County a son of the late Taft Chapman and Patience Clark Chapman. He was a Navy veteran and was retired from Santee Carriers. Mr. Chapman was an active member and former deacon of First Baptist Church in Elloree and a former active member of First Baptist Church in Eutawville. Mr. Chapman was preceded in death by a sister Elaine Chapman and brothers, Edward and Dewey Chapman. Surviving are his wife of the home; a daughter, Marla (Jeff) Bunn of Goose Creek; a son, George (Christine) Chapman, Jr. of Bentonville, Ark.; a sister, Jessie (Bob) Darrah of Pendleton, Ind.; a brother, Buford (Brenda) Chapman of Hartsville; three grandsons, Cameron Bunn, Taylor Chapman, and Michael Chapman. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Avinger Funeral Home, Holly Hill.
