Genevieve Peterkin Obituary

I am so grateful to Legacy.com for bringing us this wonderful memory of Sister as we approach the tenth anniversary of her going Home to be with the Lord. She was truly an amazing person and a pleasure to have known. Thankfully, she still is and always will be the "Sister" some of us never had.

Great Aunt Genevieve- Sorry this is so late- I was doing a family History study and found that you had past- this world has lost a very special person. Great Uncle Clark will be waiting to meet you along with our other ancestors.

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.

I grew up in Murrells Inlet with her son he was my best friend. Sister was a special lady enen after Jim died , when ever I was in Murells Inlet I would go by and visit. We spend many days shrimping with her family in the inlet and skiing. I will miss her.

Both of us extend to the family our deepest condolences. We were so sorry to hear of your loss. What a special lady she was!

My thoughts, love, prayers and sincere sympathy to the Chandler and Peterkin families. Sister was an exceptionally gracious and wonderful lady who I will always admire. May God bless her and these families. Love you all.

I will always remember Sisters compassion, generosity and passion for story telling. She was a beautiful person who inspired me by her love of history and community service. Her gift of words will live on through her documentaries and books but more importantly through those that knew and loved her dearly. I knew Jinny as a co-hort at Coker College, Hartsville, SC. She was an outstaanding leader in her class and a roommte of my sister, Elsie. Saw her about 4 years ago and she gave me a book which she wrote about her area. I shall cherish even more now that she is gone. Pat Bullock.

I interviewed Sister for our Roanoke VA. Tv program back in 2007. Her southern warmth and detailed memories gave me a special love and appreciation for the low country and it's people. I now visit Murrel's Inlet often and reflect on the stories Sister shared from her porch overlooking the marsh.

Genevieve, Sis, was a wonderful person and friend to know as I lived in the Inlet area of SC in the 80's and 90's! I learned so much from her and the indigenous people of coastal SC! "Thank you, Sis! I love you!" - and now you truly experience "Heaven as a Beautiful Place!"

Sis.When God made U'' It was one of the best thing to Murrells Inlet,U made a diffenece in my life,Thank u Lord for the kind of person she was ,never judge u but love u.In June we have one of the most uplifting conversation in my life at that time.

Growing up with Sis and all of the Chandlers at the Inlet was a wonderful experience.I am so glad you have been a part of my life for so long.May God bless you.

Ginny was one of the most caring and generous persons I have known. I was privileged to have been her college roommate and her friend through the years. She has made a difference in the world, and will be greatly missed.

An Angel on earth has been called home. May God Bless Sisters family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you always. So many wonderful memories have rushed in of summers on the Inlet! The wisdom, stories and art shared with us on the creek porch will be cherished forever.

Sister was spoken of fondly by my mother. She grew up in Murrells Inlet and got "Heaven is a Beautiful Place" as a gift. When Mama went to heaven in 2007 I got the book. I hope they get together soon and talk about the good ole days. Peace to you all. Crystal - Southern Pines, NC

Having interviewed Sister on TV several times, I know her love of her fellow man was pure and unending. She gave voice to the unspoken, and documented stories that came from the heart.
Her books were always tender and unveiled a childlike view of the world, adoring animals and flowers. Sister made the best of her time on earth. She made a real difference.
May we all be lucky enough to do the same.

Her book made a big difference in my life, at a time I needed it. She will be missed, Another joy to Heaven.

May this beautiful lady rest in peace with the Lord. She was a joy and inspiraton to me each time she shared her precious memories and time with me upon my visits. Her name was "Sister" and she truly deserved that title as she is the sister many of us never had.

South Carolina has lost a gracious, Southern lady. Sister, I truly regret not following the words you inscribed in my book "How I'd love to see you again. If you come near the inlet, please find me"...Now I will look to find you one day in that beautiful place we call "heaven".
