Geneva Mills Obituary

MILLS, Geneva Geneva Neva Holland Mills, 92, widow of Charles Hoyt Mills, Sr. of Mt. Pleasant, SC passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2007. The funeral service will be Saturday, November 3, 2007 in Hibben United Methodist Church at eleven o'clock. Burial will follow in McClellanville Cemetery, McClellanville, SC. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 o'clock at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL. Geneva Neva Holland Mills was born April 11, 1915, in Florence, SC, daughter of the late Frank Holland and Geneva McLaughlin Holland. She married Charles Hoyt Mills, Sr. and moved to McClellanville, SC. In 1956, she along with her husband, and family moved to Bulls Island, where she began a career operating the Dominick House. Using her many talents to successfully manage and operate her business, she helped her many guests experience a wonderful visit to the Island. Those guests from all over the world who were blessed to eat at her table, knew the bounty of Momma Mills cooking talents. Many of these guests formed lasting friendships with her family and returned many times to visit and enjoy her hospitality and family . Upon the death of her husband, Momma Mills (as she was affectionately called by her family) devoted the remainder of her life to her beloved family. The holidays were always special when her home was filled with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her family and friends were truly blessed to have her for so many years. Their comfort comes in knowing her love and devotion and that the rose still grows beyond the wall. She was a member of Hibben United Methodist Church and the Joy Circle. Surviving are her children, Charles H. Mills, Jr. and his wife, Terri; Frank Holland Mills and his wife, Caroline, Glenn Perry Mills and his wife, Susan, Melissa Mills Foster and her husband, Bill, Cecil Lee Mills and his wife, Ruth. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren including a grandson that she raised, Charles H. Mills, III and his wife, Jennie, as well as twenty-five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Frank, Leo, Fred, Wilbur and one sister, Hilda. A memorial message may be written to the family by visiting our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com. I remember Aunt Neva very fondly. Buddy and I may not get to the service, but we want you to know the family is in our thoughts and prayers. My mother, Lillian Toler, will miss her so much. She and Aunt Neva have spent hours and hours together the past years. I love you, my cousins, though we don't visit often. May God Bless and Keep You.

It was a pleasure listening to "momma mills" tell stories. Sometimes she would just sit and listen, and then sometimes when she heard her husbands name she would sit straight up and a glisten would come to her eyes. She was a very special woman.
