Gene Keyser Obituary

Dr. Gene Everette Keyser Jacksonville, FL - Dr. Gene Everette Keyser of Jacksonville, FL, aged 64, passed away surrounded by his loving family December 29th at Roper St. Francis Hospital in his hometown of Charleston, SC. He was born on October 7, 1953. Following his graduation from North Charleston High School in 1971, he attended Duke University in Durham, NC, earning a chemistry degree in 1975. He was married to Debra Sue Tye, also of Charleston, in 1974, and the couple moved to Champagne, Illinois, the following summer so he could pursue his doctorate degree in organic chemistry which he earned in 1979. Keyser founded Key Solutions, Inc., a wastewater treatment consulting firm in 1989 and worked on municipal and private projects around the United States and internationally for more than 25 years. His passion for science and technology was matched only by his love for his Duke Blue Devils which he shared with his mother, Lita Keyser, and his commitment to his family. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Debra, of Jacksonville, FL; his daughter, Christina Vida, and her husband Jason Vida, of Richmond, VA; and his grandchildren, Morris Jennings Vida and Sydney Grace Vida also of Richmond. He was predeceased by his father, Sidney "Buddy" Keyser, and his brother, Robert "Jackie" Keyser. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church in North Charleston. Visit our guestbook at www.legacy.com/obituaries/ charleston

Knew Gene for many years. One Of the smartest guys I've ever known. We used to spend nights playing chess when he was helping me with my wastewater plant at Neptune Beach. I'll always treasure his friendship.

So sorry to read of Gene's death. He will always be remembered as my childhood playmate and classmate in school. We always played board games all day when his mother would go shopping, make tents and read comic books, ride bicycles all day in summertime. Along with being in the same class throughout grammar school. Gene will always be remebered.
