Gene Dyches Obituary

Gene Earl Dyches WALTERBORO - Mr. Gene Earl Dyches, husband of June Bennett Dyches, died Wednesday morning at Colleton Medical Center. He was 72. Gene was born in Hilda, SC, April 19, 1938, a son of Lucille Black Dyches and the late John Harold Dyches. He attended Clemson University, where he majored in engineering, and after graduation worked for the South Carolina Highway Department. Gene was the Personnel Director for over 39 years at J.P. Stevens, which later became CCX, and was also a licensed insurance agent for Independent Life Insurance Company. Gene was an active member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Walterboro, where he was a member of the Will Goodwin Sunday School Class, was a Sunday School Teacher, was a former director of the Methodist Youth Fellowship, and was a delegate to the Annual Conference. He was also a former Jaycee and board member of Coastal Electric. In addition to his wife of Walterboro, and his mother of Beaufort, he is survived by two daughters Lisa Dyches Hiott and husband Perry, of Stockbridge, GA and Allison Dyches Bello of Charleston. There is one son, Gregory Allen Dyches, of Folly Beach, and three step-sons, John Rush and wife Audrey of Silver Springs, MD, Raymond Bennett Rush, of Olanta, and James Edward Rush of Florence. Gene has two step-daughters, Sarah Beatrice Rush of Dallas, TX and Gaye Rush Poston, and husband Reggie, of Florence. There are three sisters, Patricia D. Carr and husband Edward, and Janet Harter, all of Beaufort, and Harriett Oram and husband John, of Blufton. Gene is also survived by ten grandchildren: Sophie Bello, Beth Rush, Sgt. Cliff Morrow, Katheryn Gainey, Kate Rush-Sheehy, Rachel Rush, Seth Rush, Kellie Rush, K.C. Mackey, and Ted Mackey. There are also four great-grandchildren: Annabel Morrow, Ford Morrow, Courtney Gainey, and Wesley Gainey. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 in the Bethel United Methodist Church in Walterboro, with burial following in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Thursday evening, from 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home, and in lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Bethel UMC.
