Gary Watson Obituary

Gary Dixie Hemingway Watson KINGSTREE - Gary Dixie Hemingway Watson, 85, widow of Joe H. Watson, Sr., died Sunday, January 10, 2010, at her residence. Mrs. Watson was born October 31, 1924, in Hemingway, a daughter of William Thomas and Helen Cheatham Hemingway. She graduated from Winthrop College in Rock Hill, SC with a BS in physical education and taught for 34 years in Williamsburg County School System before retiring. Besides teaching in the schools, Mrs. Watson taught homebound students for 15 years and taught swimming to two generations of young people at Black River and the Moose Lodge. She was a member of multiple Bridge clubs and Shanghai clubs in Kingstree and a longtime volunteer at Williamsburg County Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Watson was an active member of Kingstree United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Wallace Connor Sunday School Class and the Leila Epps Circle. She taught the 5th and 6th Grade Sunday School Class there for 20 years. Survivors are: a son, Joe H. (Mary Frances) Watson, Jr., of Columbia; two daughters, Elizabeth W. Dorrell of Sumter, SC and Patricia Ann (Michael) Mullins, of Charlotte, NC; one sister, Mary Helen Hemingway Brown, of Florence, SC; and five grandchildren, Elizabeth Watson and Kelli Dorrell, both of Charleston, Kevin Dorrell, of Sumter, and Mason Mullins and Lidia Mullins, both of Charlotte, NC. Funeral services will be 2 PM Wednesday, January 13, 2010 in the Kingstree United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Kingstree Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at Williamsburg Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Kingstree United Methodist Church, 510 N. Longstreet Street, Kingstree, SC 29556 or Tidelands Community Hospice, 2591 N. Fraser Street, Georgetown, SC 29440.
