Gail Hutto Obituary

Gail Elizabeth Hutto N. CHARLESTON - Gail Elizabeth Hutto, age 59 of North Charleston, SC passed away in the early morning hours of June 19, 2014 at the Hospice House of Charleston in Mt. Pleasant after a long and spirited fight with lung disease. A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Target United Methodist Church, 705 Target Road, Holly Hill, with Rev. Ed Stiltz officiating. The family will receive friends before the service beginning at 2 p.m. and after the service in the church social hall. She was born October 4, 1954 in Orangeburg to the late James M. "Gator" Hutto and Emily Jones Hutto. She was a 1972 Graduate of Holly Hill High school where she was a band member and also a graduate of Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College School of Nursing, a profession she enjoyed until her retirement from Coastal Occupational Medicine in North Charleston. Gail was blessed with many good friends and endured her illness with patience and grace even in the last hours of her life. She is survived by her mother, Emily Jones Hutto of Mt. Pleasant; her brother, James M. "Jimmy" Hutto, Jr., of Mt. Pleasant and dear sister-in-law, Sheila Hutto; an uncle, Edward Larry "Babe" Hutto of Edisto Beach; nieces, Megan Elizabeth Hutto Hale of Wichita Falls, Texas, Catherine Lucille "Lucy" Hutto of Sullivan's Island, nephews, James Marion Hutto, III of Johns Island, Myles Armstrong Hutto of Chicago, Ill., and William "Connor" Hutto of Mt. Pleasant and many cousins. The family would like to express thanks to the outpouring of condolences from so many friends and extended family and the wonderful people of Piedmont Hospice and Hospice of Charleston who were so gracious and wonderful on her last day. It is with special gratitude that we thank and recognize Janet Ivey, her dear friend of North Charleston who was like a sister to her.
