Gail Bunn Obituary

Gail Weaver Bunn Kiawah Island - Gail Weaver Bunn died on June 5, 2016 after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma. Gail was born in Salisbury, NC on September 28,1950, the eldest of three daughters. She was predeceased by her parents, Frances Moore and William Levi Weaver. She is survived by her husband, Tom and her sisters, Barbara Weaver Gatewood and Linda Weaver Alexander. Gail grew up in Salisbury and graduated from Boyden High School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Gail excelled in a 19-year career in banking with NCNB and NationsBank, where her responsibilities included managing the North Carolina Real Estate Bank and the Corporate and Investment Banking Associates and Analyst Programs. Prior to her management roles, she had corporate banking responsibilities primarily for Midwest companies. During and after her banking career, Gail maintained her passion for childhood education. She was actively involved in the development of two preschools serving inner city neighborhoods in Charlotte. She tutored in the public schools in Charlotte and Johns Island, SC and, managed a tutoring program at Citizens Academy, a charter school in Cleveland. Her generosity of spirit showed in many ways. Gail served as a Deacon and Elder for First Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. She also served on the UNC-CH Board of Visitors, the Board of the UNC-CH School of Education Foundation and as a Trustee for The Crossnore School. Gail was a wonderful and caring wife of 30 years. She adored her nieces and nephews and reveled in their lives and company. She loved her puppies and was happiest walking with them in the mountains or on the beach. She was an active gardener, hiker, reader and traveler. Sharing flowers from her garden with friends always made her smile. She loved interior design and had a wonderful sense of fashion and style. Gail and Tom traveled many wonderful places and shared many great sunsets. Her favorite travels took them to many National Parks for hikes up mountains to witness spectacular beauty and wildlife. She loved being outside to enjoy God's nature. Gail was a special friend to those close to her. Also, she cared deeply for everyone who helped her during her illness. She was always kind and appreciative and never let her illness impact her warm, gracious smile. Gail was a very special lady and will be deeply missed. My prayers are with the family on the loss of Gail. The Weavers and Kirks grew up in the same church, First United Church of Christ and I knew the girls as a teacher at Knox and Salisbury High. A fine family!

My condolences to your family; I never met you but your generosity blessed our daughter who was a Gail Bunn Fellow at UNC class of 2012. Because of your blessing in her education she is an amazing teacher and the opportunity you provided through this scholarship is unmatched by the life and legacy you left with so many. Rest and be with God in Peace. Thank you so very much.

I send my condolences to the family and friends. I appreciate her so much. Although I did not know her personally, I had the privilege of being a recipient of the Gail Bunn Fellowship at UNC Chapel Hill. That experienced transformed my perspective and experience in education. I will forever remember that opportunity that was provided because of her.
