Furman Langley Obituary

Furman "Sonny" Brasington Langley, Jr. ELLOREE, SC - Furman Brasington Langley, Jr. entered peacefully into eternal rest on September 14, 2017 in Elloree, S.C. He was born August 18, 1935 in Mount Pleasant, SC, son of Furman Brasington Langley Sr. and Eunice Spiers Langley. He attended Furman University and graduated from the University of S.C. After graduation, he became manager and then owner of his parent's Sea Island Piggly Wiggly. While in Mount Pleasant he was active in many church and community organizations. Upon retirement, he served in the mission field for eight years in Africa and China. He ultimately retired to Elloree, SC with the love of his life, Shirley, and to pursue his other lifelong loves of hunting and fishing. Furman is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shirley Coppedge Langley, and five children: Furman Brasington Langley III (Jeannie), Lisbeth Langley Moore (Evander), Arthur Walton Langley, Kaye Langley Thomas (Scott), and William Donald Langley (Veronica); 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Anne Langley Darby, and a brother, Dr. William John Langley. Celebration of life will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 16th at First Baptist Church, Elloree, SC and at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 17th at First Baptist Church, Mt. Pleasant, SC (McCants Drive). The family will receive family and friends following the services.
