Frederick Matthews Macon, GA - Frederick Matthews was born March 9, 1946, to the late James S. Matthews and Victoria Ferguson Matthews. He was educated in the public school of Charleston County, graduating from Burke High School. He was awarded a scholarship from The City of Charleston to attend South Carolina State University. His love for SC State University made him commit to recruit students to his Alma Mater. Fred and his daughter, Sabrina, co-funded the SC State Alumni Chapter for Middle Georgia. His brother, Steve, assisted in getting a personal friend, Congressman Jim Clyburn, to speak for that occasion. Fred retired from Brown-Williamson Tobacco Company where he rose through the ranks and worked as a Division Manager after 25 years. He was a community advocate working with the youth of the church in many endeavors. He was a scout master and achieved the task for his son to become an Eagle Scout. As a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church (Macon, GA), he served on many committees and as Chairman of the Deacon Board. The Celebration of Life Services for Mr. Matthews will be held 10:00 AM Friday, April 29, 2022, at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Macon, GA. Interment will follow at the Georgia Veterans Cemetery in Milledgeville, GA. He is survived by: his wife, Adelle Matthews; daughters, Eunice Bradshaw (Phillip) and Sabrina Matthews; son, Thomas Matthews (Ashley); grandchildren, Penelope and Jaidynce; brothers, James Matthews, Jr. and St. Julian Matthews (Catherine); a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
