Frederick Guile Obituary

Frederick Alvin Guile BEAUFORT - Frederick Alvin Guile, 77, of Beaufort, South Carolina passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Born August 19, 1934 in Fulton, New York, he was the son of the late George Dewey Guile and Dolores Todd Guile. He married Alveretta "Allie" Ziegler on January 4, 1952. Fred enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in November 1952 and retired in 1972. He served two tours of duty in the Republic of Vietnam and was commissioned an officer 15 July 1966. Included among the awards he received are the Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon. An active parishioner of the First Presbyterian Church, Fred served his church as a Deacon, an Elder, and a Sunday school teacher. Organizations he belonged to include the Lions Club, AMVETS, the American Legion, and the National Rifle Association. Fred was an avid sportsman and loved the outdoors. Throughout his life, he spent much of his free time hunting, fishing and golfing. Those close to Fred say he "never met a stranger" as he had a gift for warming up quickly with "new" friends. He was gregarious and outgoing and could tell a joke better than most. He was well known for his special ability to bring a smile to all of us. Fred will be deeply missed by his wife, Allie of Beaufort, his sister, Gloria Richardson of Kalkaska, Michigan; his children, Frederick and wife Helena of East Haddam, Connecticut, Sheryl and husband Paul Sharry of Charleston, South Carolina, Arthur of Dallas, Texas, Sandra and husband Chris Stokes of Charles Town, West Virginia, Andrew and wife Tatiana of Wilmington, Delaware, and Dolores and husband Matthew Murdock of Benson, North Carolina; his 11 grand children; and 4 great grand children. A memorial service will be held at 11 am Friday September 9, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church, 1201 North Street, Beaufort, South Carolina. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the First Presbyterian Endowment Fund, P.O. Box 1226 Beaufort, SC 29901 or HELP of Beaufort P.O. Box 472 Beaufort, SC 29901.
