Fred Thompson Obituary

Fred Thompson SUMMERVILLE - Fred Thompson, 87, of Summerville, South Carolina, husband of Dorothy M. Oaks Thompson, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, March 5, 2024. His funeral service will be held Saturday, March 9, 2024, in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Drive at 4:00 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Northwoods Chapel. Fred was born November 24, 1936, in Lincolnton, North Carolina, son of the late Cone Thompson and Mamie Houser Thompson. He moved to South Carolina in 1985 and worked with the Sumter Utility Company for over 27 years as a utility lineman. Fred loved the great outdoors, fishing and camping. His greatest joy was his grandchildren and time with his family. In addition to his wife of 69 years, Dorothy, Fred is survived by his children: Dwayne Thompson of York, SC, Norma Bell of Summerville, SC, Deborah Wieland (Casey) of York, SC and Quincy Harris (Danette) of Summerville, SC; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sons: Douglas Thompson and William Thompson; brothers: Carl Thompson, Edgar Thompson and Forest Hugh Thompson; sisters: Doris Hughes, Sarah Clark and Hazel Montgomery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060. A memorial message may be sent to the family by visiting our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com.
