Fred Wallace Owens JOHNS ISLAND - Funeral Service for Mr. Fred Wallace Owens, 75 of 3655 Marshfield Road Johns Island, S.C. will be Monday February 16, 2015 11:00 AM at FerryField Baptist Church 539 River Road Johns Island, S. C. Rev. James R. Townes, Pastor. The Interment will be in the Church Cemetery. Mr. Owens will be placed in the church at 10:00 AM Active Pallbearers: James Capers, Henry Frazer Ike Hamilton, William Frazer, Gerald Blake Johnny Brown. Honorary Pallbearers: Fred L. Owens, Sidney Jenkins, Vincent T. Owens, Elijah Commodore, Levon T. Owens, James E. Owens Sr. Fred Wallace Owens was born in Reevesville, SC on February 6, 1940 to the late Mr. Edward James (EJ) and Mrs. Janie Owens. He was baptized and member of Ferry Field Missionary Baptist Church. He entered into his eternal rest on February 11, 2015. Fred received his education at Haut Gap High School on Johns Island. After high school he went to work for Charleston Water Company and Reliable Oil Company. While in his prime, he enjoyed drag racing and living life. Soon he met Christine Tolbert whom later became his beloved wife. From this union four children were born. In 1965, Fred and his loving wife moved to New York City and began working at Royal Service Station and in 1977 MAJ Transit as a Mechanic until 1996. From there he worked for Varsity Transit as a Bus Driver and finally retired in 2010. His drive to own his own business resulted in his creation of Owens Tours, a charter bus company in 1990. He devoted his time building his business and brand to which at one point he had owned and operated three charter buses. After retirement he relocated back home to Charleston, South Carolina and renewed his membership with Ferry Field Baptist Church. He loved cars and the upkeep of any type of moving vehicle. He enjoyed entertaining, playing spades and traveling with his family and friends. His memories will continue to live on by his devoted wife Christine Owens of Charleston SC. Five loving children Fred LaVal (Angela) of Waldorf, MD, Vincent of Bronx, NY, Levon (Sonique) of Powder Springs, GA, Cereatha (Fred) of Powder Springs, GA and Sidney of Charleston, SC. Brothers: James E. Owens Sr. of Johns Island SC, Herbert L. Owens (Irma) of New York NY, Thomas E. Owens of Johns Island, SC; Sisters: Gracie O. Tillman of Bronx, NY, Shirley Commodore (Elijah) and Ida O. Gailliard of Charleston, SC. In-Laws: Wilhelmina Lewis (George), Barbara Singleton, Betty Washington Grandchildren: Vincent, Malique, Jazmyn, Cierra, Bryson, Nigel, Issac, Amari, Aleyn, Javelina, Jayla, Travis, Shawnta, Justin, Andrea; 4 great grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends.
