Mr. McCrea had an huge impact on my life and my success. I have shared stories with my children on how a great principal he was. He was truly one principal that stood out from many. I had the privilege of working with Mr. McCrea as my principal at James Island Middle School for ten years. He was an excellent administrator and mentor. I have always appreciated, among many things, his willingness to hire me as a new college graduate and guide me as I "learned" how to be an effective teacher. To the family: this one individual has touched countless numbers of lives and has been such a positive influence to so many; I hope this will bring comfort to you at this time of great loss.

My heart goes out to each of you as you experience the deep pain of your loss. Mr. McCrea was one of my math teachers at Fort Johnson High. He loved to hear me sing, so he would often "motivate" me to sing in class to "improve" my grade. He was one of my most memorable teachers, and I have always smiled at each thought of him across the years. God be with you. You will be in my prayers.

To the McCrea Family, I had the privilege of teaching at James Island Middle School while Mr. McCrea was principal. I always respected him as he had many admirable qualities as a leader and as a professional. He gave his all to making JIMS the best possible school he could. I'm sure his positive influence is still felt by many on James Island.

I have had the privilege to work along with Mr. McCrea for a little more than six (6) years. During my tenure with James Island Middle School, I observed Mr. McCrea's adeptness displayed in being both coach and team player. He was also a leader who was fair; this fairness was exhibited in his day-to-day interactions with students and staff. We have lost a wonderful person and educator... who I am sure have won the respect of many.

To the Family of My Mentor and friend...

I will always remember and appreciate Mr. Franklin D. McCrea. He was my mentor during my spring semester training in the Charleston County School District Principal Apprentice Program. (1984) Always the consumate professional, Mr. McCrea, in my opinion was "The Principal's Principal." He firmly believed in dotting all I's and crossing all T's. I will miss him dearly.

May God comfort you all throughout your time of bereavement.

I was fortunate to have the guidance and nurturing of Mr. McCrea as a teacher during my formative years. He taught and molded the character of generations of young people on James Island with a firm hand and a warm heart. His contributions to our lives will continue to have residual benefits as we pay it forward in the lives of the young people we touch. Rest In Peace. Job well done!
