While I was so far away for his final moments, Pop-pop was always close to my heart. So while it is with a heavy heart that we let him go, he shared so much while he was with us which should leave some comfort. May Pop-pop be at peace now and forever more - and may there be plenty of cookies for dunking!

Lovingly,
Dawn

Thank you for welcoming me with open arms, Pop Pop. I'll miss hearing you say "give me some sugar". I love you. Rest in peace.

I'm sure that I was never as close to my Pop-pop as I could have been, but that doesn't make his passing any easier. He could have been a man I met only once, and the impact would still be the same - Pop-pop's personality, I think, would have left a good impression on ANY person that had the pleasure of his company. It's not much, but I would like to share a haiku:

Shining inner flame,
Brightly burning 'gainst the dark,
Heavenly spirit

His body might have been frail, but he was a pillar of strength that has helped to guide me through many troubles, childish and serious alike. I'll never forget the day I wheeled him out of the retirement home to get his glasses fixed and putter around the Park Place mall. It might have been an odd outing, but it put a smile on his face, and that's what counted most. That memory will stay locked in my heart, forever and always.
