Frank Whiteside Obituary

Frank C. Whiteside III CHARLESTON - Frank C. "Tripp" Whiteside III, 42, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on February 28, 2021 at his home in West Ashley. A native of Charleston, SC, he was the son of Jonolyn "Bink" and Frank C. "Buddy" Whiteside, Jr. and devoted husband of Elizabeth "Liz" Mester. He is survived by his wife, parents, sister, Morgan "Mojo" Whiteside, mother-in-law, Mary Mester-all of West Ashley, sister-in-law, Kate Mester of Paris, France, more devoted friends than one could ever hope for, and his beloved, chaotic dog, Penny. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joyce and Johnny Scott of Summerton, SC and Lib and F. Carroll Whiteside, Sr. of Spartanburg, SC. His grandfathers passed on their love of plaid flannel and penchant for storytelling that shaped Frank into a charming old man at a very young age, and his grandmothers gave him an unyielding confidence in the fact that he had "the prettiest eyes you ever did see." He was a private man by design but couldn't help but attract a legion of loyal and loving friends who adored his tremendous wit and endless humor. His laugh was contagious and full, and it was never louder than when it followed his own jokes, which only made him more endearing to everyone around him. A love of music shaped much of his life and led to him working at local independent record stores 52.5 and Earshot, where he shared his wealth of musical knowledge with others and further amassed his own extensive and eclectic vinyl collection that became the stuff of legend. Additionally, he was a fixture in the Charleston food and beverage community for many years, most notably working at Recovery Room Tavern. Frank's world was ignited anew when he met the love of his life, Liz. Married on December 5, 2015, they shared countless evenings under the stars in twin rocking chairs enjoying laughter, Frank's tall tales, and the company of friends (four-legged and human alike). Their love and undeniable adoration for one another were the envy of all who knew him. "Frankie Fast Feet" left us much too soon, but he left an indelible mark on this world. He will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. Due to the pandemic, memorial services will be private. Frank, my heart is broken. I can't even listen to music right now, that's how much of an impact you had on me. Know that I'll be eternaly grateful for our time together and that I count that time as some of the happiest I've ever been.
Liz, you put a sparkle in his eyes that I'd never seen before. His love for you is undeniable. One of my great regrets is never seeing it in person.

Please know that I truly loved him like a brother and I'm here if you ever need me.
