Francis Lowder Obituary

Francis "Frank" Lowder Hanahan - It is with great sadness that the family of Francis (Frank) H. Lowder announces his passing on August 6, 2018. He will be lovingly missed by the love of his life Jean C. Lowder, his 6 children; Frank Lowder Jr (Linda), Cheryle "Dolly" Lowder, Cindy Stewart (Pete), Rhonda Hawkins (Ryan), Thomas Shaw, and Cliff Lowder (Kristen), his 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and extended family and friends. Papa, as he was affectionately known, was preceded in death by his number one grandson, Brandon Shaw, and many other loved ones. Frank was born November 16, 1941 in Charleston, SC to Clifton A. Lowder and Quinette D. Lowder. He served in the Marines and was a member of Victory Baptist Church. He was in the retail business for many years, running Lowder's Grocery on James Island and an employee of CVS. After retiring, he was a part time driver for Mile-A-Minute Delivery. Papa was a very loving and kind man. He never met a stranger and loved by all that knew him. Frank's term of endearment for the women in his life was "Babe". There will be a memorial service on Friday, August 10, 2018 at 4p.m. at Victory Baptist Church, 355 Woodland Shores Rd, James Island, with a celebration of life to follow at 894 Piccadilly Circle, James Island from 5:30-8:00. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org, (501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105) or The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention at www.afsp.org (1-888-333-AFSP). Aunt Jean, I am so sorry for your loss. Uncle Frank was always a kind and gentle man. I was in the hospital on August 7, but you and Uncle Frank were on my mind and in my prayers.

Frank, or Frankie, as I knew him, was one of my best boyhood friends. We weren't in the same class at Riverland Terrace elementary school, but we played together on weekends. My family lived on Harbor View Rd., and I was allowed to ride my bicycle over to the Terrace. Frank and I played marbles and we both loved playing with cars. We weren't always angels. We may have swiped a golf ball or two or three off the public golf course fairways down the road from the store. His parents were always very nice to me, and Frankie was a great kid. I'm so happy to read that he grew up to be a great guy.

Sending our condolences, love and prayers for you and family during this difficult time.
Pop Pop will be greatly missed by so many because he left his mark on everyone he met and he would have been an awesome Pop Pop to our Emily!
