Francis Dugas Obituary

Francis Dugas MT. PLEASANT - Francis Leo Dugas, 86, of Mount Pleasant, SC, peacefully passed away June 22, 2025, at Agape Hospice House in Summerville, SC. Francis was born on March 22, 1939 to the late Arthur Alvin Dugas and Evangeline Joyal Dugas in Oakland, Rhode Island. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara Gordon Kermack Dugas; children: Kathryn James(Kristina Kordonowy), Sheryl Bey (David), Michael Dugas (Donna); grandchildren: Keith Dugas, Quinn James, Joshua Bey, Caroline James, Lindsey Bey, Alex Fisher, Mary Kathryn Bey, Korden Lamberth, Donald Quindardo, Anthony Quindardo, Dayna LeFebvre; great- grandchildren: Jacoby Bey, Zelda Bey, Logan LeFebvre, Everly LeFebvre, and Vincenza Quindardo; sisters: Priscilla Dugas Heroux and Lynda Dugas Patnoad Kieser He is preceded in death by his sister, Susan Dugas Pelkey, and brother, Robert A Dugas. Francis graduated high school from Mount Saint Charles Academy in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. He earned his Associate's Degree at Community College of the Air Force, Maxwell, Alabama. He served in the United States Air Force for 35 yrs, working as a reciprocating engine mechanic, a flight engineer on cargo planes C-133 and C-141's, he retired with the grade of Master Sergeant in 1977 a member of the 20th Military Squadron, he was called back to duty to the 701st Reserve Military Airlift Squadron during Operation Desert Storm. He worked at Amoco Chemical Co for 20 yrs, as well as Enterprise Rent-A-Car for 15 yrs. His beloved hobby was flying his own plane, spending many hours with his East Cooper Pilot Association, while generously volunteering his plane and services to the Angel Flights organization and NOAA WhaleWatch, flying marine scientists along the SC coast to track the Right Whales. He also loved exploring nature by taking walks in the woods, motorcycles and feeding the deer in his backyard each evening. Francis and Barbara enjoyed traveling the world, often with his sister, Lynda and their Christ our King Catholic Church choir friends. He was a devoted member of the St. Benedict Church Adoration team. A funeral mass will be held Tuesday July 1, 2025 at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 950 Darrell Creek Trail, Mt. Pleasant SC 29466 @ 11am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to www.aircarealliance.org (Angel Flights).
