Frances Monaco Obituary

Frances Monaco CHARLESTON - Frances Monaco (nee Sweetman) of Charleston passed away at home on Monday, April 19, 2021, surrounded by her husband, Frank D. Monaco; daughter, Vivien Monaco; son, James (Jim) Monaco; and son-in-law, Larry D. King. Frances was born in Liverpool, England, on September 14, 1930, to Thomas and Christina (Tina, nee McGregor) Sweetman. She and her younger brother, George, were evacuated to Wales during World War II to escape the Nazi bombing of Liverpool. After graduating from school, she went to work. Frances met Frank, a young Air Force Airman stationed at Burtonwood Air Force Base outside of Liverpool, on an outing with friends in 1952. They married on July 4, 1953, lived throughout Europe and the United States during Frank's 26-year Air Force career, and lived in Javea, Spain, during retirement from 1982 to 1996, with the exception of two years in Saudi Arabia. Frances loved to travel, and she and Frank traveled the world. Frances also loved to read and write. She wrote short stories and articles, some of which were published in magazines, and more recently she wrote book reviews for the Charleston Post and Courier. She was preceded in death by her parents; her younger brother, George; and her older brothers, James and Harry. Frances is survived by her husband, son, and daughter. Her family, extended family, and friends throughout the globe will miss her love, kindness, wit, and love of life. Arrangements are by the Palmetto Cremation Society. No memorial will be held at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to MUSC Foundation/Hollings Cancer Center, 18 Bee Street MSC 450, Charleston, SC 29425, or online at https://connect2.musc.edu/cancer. We will miss you forever Auntie Fran. You were a true inspiration to me. You were a wealth of information about our family. You were the bond that brought us closer together & connected us to our family members in Liverpool & brought us closer to cousins Vivien & Larry, Jim, Janet & David. You have connected us to a wonderful family in Liverpool. I can only hope that I learn to carry myself with the grace that you showed your whole life. Lots of Love

Fran was special and we so enjoyed her and your dad´s company. She and I were of the same political ilk and mutually marveled at the shenanigans of the last four years. I will miss those conversations very much. We are deeply saddened by her passing and very sorry for your loss.
