Frances Knobeloch

Frances I. Newell Knobeloch, 84, of Granite City, Ill., born Feb. 7, 1930, in Dayton, Ohio, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at University Nursing and Rehab in Edwardsville, Ill.

Mrs. Knobeloch resided in this area for 71 years, the last four and a half in Edwardsville, Ill. She was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ in Granite City and a member of their Evening Guild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leland and Edna, nee Coleman, Newell; and four sisters, Agnes Selby, Virginia Whaling, Mary Darner and Edna Waters.

Surviving are her loving husband of 61 years, Cletus A. Knobeloch of Granite City, Ill.; her children, Rev. Sue Ann (Randy) Biggerstaff of Wright City, Mo., Bruce (Elaine) Newell Knobeloch of Hollister, Calif., and Maryellen (Edward) Brake of Godfrey, Ill.; grandchildren, Nick Biggerstaff, Amy Swanson, Ian Brake, Jordan Brake, Ellen Knobeloch and Emily Knobeloch; great-grandchildren, Annabelle and Nolan Swanson, Alana and Preston Biggerstaff and Madelynn Knobeloch; brothers and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Mrs. Knobeloch lived with Multiple Sclerosis for almost 50 years. She donated her body for anatomical study to Washington University, St. Louis, Mo. Frances has been supported by the loving staff at University Nursing and Rehab for the last four and a half years.

Memorials may be made to St. Peter United Church of Christ, 2101 Cleveland Blvd., Granite City, Ill., or Multiple Sclerosis Society, 1867 Lackland Hill Parkway, St. Louis, Mo. 63146.

Visitation: A gathering of friends will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014, at St. Peter United Church of Christ, 2101 Cleveland Blvd., Granite City, Ill.

Funeral: A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014, at the church with Rev. Aaron Ban officiating.
