Flora Condon Obituary

Flora P. Condon CHARLESTON - Flora P. Condon of Charleston, SC, 84 widow of Richard L. "Dick" Condon and the late L.C. Piccirillo died peacefully on Monday, January 6, 2014, with her loving family and caregivers at her side. Her friends and caregivers at Horizon Bay Assisted Living will miss her pleasant smile, humor and many gestures of appreciation. The relatives and friends of Flora P. Condon are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM Friday, January 10, 2014, at Nativity Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Flora was born in Anderson, SC on October 13, 1929 as one of seven children. Flora is survived by her sister, Margie Peeler of Greenwood, SC and a brother, Clifton Williams of Anderson, SC. As a student she enjoyed all sports, excelling in basketball, softball and field hockey. Throughout her life Flora was known as a charismatic and loving person who never met a stranger. She applied herself to her church, community and politics throughout her lifetime. While married to the late L.C. Piccirillo, Flora reared her five children and was named as Homemaker of the Year in 1958. Her grace, poise and beauty were the qualities leading to being named Mrs. Elbert County. Flora and L.C. were very active in various community projects. They started the Little League Baseball Program, from building the field to furnishing the uniforms. One of the Piccirillos' many gestures of generosity was establishing The L.C. Piccirillo Scholarship for the local high school. Since 1968, this scholarship is continued by Flora and her children for almost 50 years. While in Elberton, her five children enjoyed a "Leave it to Beaver" Family lifestyle, where charity, good citizenship and hard work were taught. These attributes were instilled in the family spirit. Flora married the late Dick Condon with whom she enjoyed 38 years of love and devotion. While residing in Charleston , she became a successful real estate agent with Joe Griffith Inc. Flora and her friend, Louise Hill managed the local campaign for the election of President Jimmy Carter. Her influence, hard work and volunteerism resulted in the elections of Senator Fritz Hollings, Governor Dick Riley and Mayor Joe Riley. She had many friends on both sides of the political aisle. Flora served on numerous boards and commissions dedicating over 19 years with The Board of Elections & Voter Registration of Charleston County. Just a couple of organizations mentioned are: The Charleston County Planning Board & The State of SC Department of Social Services Commission. The City of Charleston proclaimed August 18th as Flora P. Condon Day in 2012. She has been an active member of Nativity Church and the Ladies Guild for many years. Many will miss her smile, candidness, generosity, graciousness and kindness. She was a trusted friend, mentor and confidante. The family expresses their appreciation to Flora's personal caregivers- Monique Frazier, Joyce Frazier, CoCo Burch & Angela Breland in conjunction with the caring staff of Horizon Bay & Angie McGoldrick of Transitions Hospice. Flora is survived by her children, Lenny Piccirillo, Charleston, Nanette Piccirillo (Tom Masi), Charleston, Ciro Piccirillo (Anne), Seneca, Ed Fendley (Beth), Loudon, TN, Linda Lindsey, Marietta, GA. Grandchildren include: Maria Perry, Monica Goswick, Ciro, Lauren, Olivia, Dominic Piccirillo, Joe & Erin Lawless, Tommy Fox, Jennifer Taylor, and Todd Masi. She has 12 great-grandchildren. Her guestbook may be signed at www.jamesamcalister.com In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Church of the Nativity, 1061 Folly Rd. Flora was always fun and dedicated to helping others. She was a tremendous leader in the State and local Democratic party and no job was too unimportant for her to do. She made thousands of calls to remind Democratic of meetings and to ask them to volunteer. A great woman and true friend to so many.

Eddie, Ciro, Nanette and Lenny,

I was saddened to read in the Post & Courier the announcement of Flora's passing. I consider it a blessing to have been friends with Dick and Flora for almost 30 years. They were both very sweet and funny people. While it is sad for all of you to no longer have her here with you, can you imagine the reunion that she and Dick must be having right now in Heaven? All of you can take comfort in knowing that she no longer suffers any pain and that she is at rest in God's tender care.

I send my sympathies and love to all of you.

God Bless you all,

Alice Seabrook
