F. Dwight Obituary

F. Marion Dwight, III BAMBERG, SC - Dr. F. Marion Dwight, III, of Bamberg passed away on July 23, 2017, after an extended illness. He was born June 13, 1934, in Sumter, South Carolina, the son of the late Mr. Francis Marion Dwight, Jr., and Pauline Loring Lee Dwight. He grew up living at Poinsett State Park in Sumter County, where his father served as park superintendent. During his childhood, he explored all that Poinsett Park had to offer. What an education it gave him! Upon graduation from Edmunds High School in Sumter, Dr. Dwight matriculated at Clemson College where he competed on the Clemson swim team. Before graduating from Clemson, he was accepted and then attended the Medical College of South Carolina. Near the end of Dr. Dwight's residency, his friend Dr. Michael Watson invited him to join his practice in Bamberg. Starting in 1959, Dr. Dwight provided medical care to his patients for more than 50 years. Attending to his patients over the course of three generations gave him such pleasure. It was truly his life's calling! Dr. Dwight was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as golfing, boating, and flying. His quick wit was legendary among all who knew him. To that end, the family wishes to thank all caregivers, drivers, family, and friends who participated in any way in his mischief-making and gave him reason to laugh. Dr. Dwight was predeceased by Annette Blanton Dwight, his wife of 40 years, and his sister, Harriet Lee Dwight Waller. He is survived by his five children: Sylvia Dwight Folk of Charleston; Harriet Dwight Ling of Pittsboro, North Carolina; Marion (Joyce) Dwight, IV, of Bamberg; Polly Dwight (Matt) Freeman of Hillsborough, North Carolina; and Lucy Dwight (Robert Metcalf) of Denver, Colorado; and his step-children Pamela (Jay) Connor and Sid Zemp of Branchville. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Daniel (Angel) Folk; Rachel (Alex) McCracken; Marshall and Dakota Ling; April Bigham and Rion Dwight; Lindsey and Bailey Freeman; Sam Metcalf; Savannah, Rebecca, and John Connor; and Sidney (Chip) Zemp; and great-grandchildren, Landon and Decklan Folk and Zoey Zemp. Additional survivors include his brother-in-law, G. David Waller, III, and nieces, Mary Christopher Waller, Harriet "Hallie" Porter, Marsena "Marsey" DeVoto and Rebecca Gjertson, as well as a number of cousins. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 26, at 11 a.m. at Bamberg First Baptist Church, 11823 Heritage Hwy., Bamberg, SC, with burial to follow in Bamberg County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 25, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Bamberg First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to any of the following: Bamberg First Baptist Church, P.O.
