Evelyn Gibbons Obituary

Evelyn Juliette Haselden Gibbons FLORENCE, SC - Evelyn Juliette Haselden Gibbons, 105, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 21, 2022. It was very peaceful as she closed her eyes for the last time on this earth and opened them in the glory of the Lord. Born on January 8, 1917 in Scranton, South Carolina, she was the eldest of seven children of the late Lawrence Davis and Juliette Cox Haselden. She lived most of her adult life in Turbeville, South Carolina, before moving to the Methodist Manor in Florence, SC in 2004 and afterwards residing in Florence, SC with her daughter. She led a full and active life, working with her husband to build their business in Turbeville, Gibbons Furniture and Appliance Company. She worked in Accounting, completing most of her hometown residences' income taxes for many decades. Always an active member of her church while she lived in Turbeville, she was never forgotten and always enjoyed the cards and visits from her Turbeville church family. After moving to Florence, she enjoyed being a part of her newly adopted Florence church family at First Presbyterian Church and the Soul Sisters Circle. She was blessed with a great mind. Everyone who visited or met her would marvel at her exceptional memory. She was predeceased by her husband of almost 59 years, Thomas Alton Gibbons; her eldest grandson, Tradd Davis Gibbons, and her son-in-law, Robert (Bobby) E. McNair, Jr. She is survived by her four children; Wayne (Ann) Gibbons of Turbeville, SC; Glenn (Gail) Gibbons of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Carolyn (Rocky) Pearce of Florence, SC, and Judy McNair of Columbia, SC. Nine grandchildren; Kelli Gibbons; Tate Gibbons and Tyler (Lacey) Gibbons both of Mt. Pleasant, SC; David (Julie) Coker, Michael Coker (Elizabeth Welch), and Jason (Casey) Coker all of Florence, SC; Wylie (Lacey) Pearce of Greenville, SC; Robby (Ashley) McNair and Billy McNair both of Columbia, SC. She was also blessed with 14 great-grandchildren that she enjoyed on every visit; Anna, Kate, and Morgan Coker of Florence, SC; Cannon and Collins Coker of Florence, SC; Wylie Pearce IV of Greenville, SC; Robert IV and William McNair of Columbia, SC; Parker and Brinkley Evelyn Gibbons of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Leighton, Logan, Mikelyn, and Taylor Gibbons of Mt. Pleasant, SC. The only surviving member of her siblings and their families is her sister-in-law, Ernestine Haselden of Florida. She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Louise (Buford) Boyd of Kingstree, SC; her five brothers and their wives; Davis (Dot)Haselden of Florence, SC, Eugene (Mary) Haselden, Julian (Matharie) Haselden, Carol (Sylvia) Haselden, Carl Haselden, all of Scranton, SC, her sister-in-law, Nita Ardis (Leon) of Summerton, SC, her brother-in-law, Kenneth (Josephine) Gibbons of Turbeville, SC, and her sister-in-law, Foye (Jessie) Furtick of Columbia, SC. She had many beloved nieces and nephews that enjoyed hearing stories of their own parents from her accurate account. A graveside service will be held at the First Baptist Church Cemetery on Highway 301, two miles South of Turbeville, SC, on Monday, April 25, 2022, at 3:00 PM. Visitation will be held immediately following the graveside service. Arrangements are made through Floyd Funeral Home in Olanta, SC. www.floydfiuneral.com The family would like to give a special thanks to Comfort Keepers of Florence, SC who provided her with companionship and outstanding care the last years of her life. A very special thank you is given to her special friend and companion for over eight years, Martha Scott. She loved Martha. She was so proud to be one of the first participants of the McLeod Home-Based Palliative Care program so that she could receive medical care and stay at home. She always made a point to tell everyone about this program. Our thanks to McLeod Palliative Care and the McLeod Hospice Care for their dedicated service. Memorials can be made to the McLeod Foundation Butterfly Fund, benefiting McLeod Hospice and Palliative Care patients, PO Box 100551, Florence, SC 29502 or online at mcleodhealth.org/foundation. "Her children rise up and call her blessed" (Proverbs 31:28) and her family was truly blessed. Visit our guestbook at legacy.com/obituaries/charleston
