Evangeline Augustine Bouvette Kerr CHARLESTON - Evangeline Augustine Bouvette Kerr, 98, of Charleston, SC, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2017. She was born on January 18, 1919 in Charleston, SC, the daughter of the late Edmond C. and Lumina Bouvette, and wife of the late Francis B. Kerr, Sr. for over 64 years. She was also predeceased by her brothers: Edmond, John, Max and Albert. She is survived by sisters-in-law: Rose Mary Kerr Bouvette and Margaret Ann Kerr; brothers-in-law: John A. Kerr, James J. Kerr, and Richard H. Kerr. Evangeline graduated from Bishop England High School and St. Francis Xavier School of Nursing. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, where her activities included Perpetual Adoration, Bible Studies, Novena Society, Ladies Guild, and the Parent Teacher Association. Evangeline, known as "Van", was a beloved and cherished mother. She and Francis Kerr were high school sweethearts and became devoted husband and wife in 1941. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren called her Mema. She was so loved by them because of her tenderness, affection, care and interest in all of their activities. She is remembered as a wise woman of faith who lived the Gospel of Love. She will be missed by her six children: Evangeline "Lynn" Kerr Holseberg (Henry); Sister Charlotte R. Kerr RSM; Francis B. Kerr, Jr. (Charlene); Robert C. Kerr (Kathy); Ellen Kerr (Pete) and Marianna Kerr Williamson (Steve); 18 grandchildren: Michelle Keith, Kristin Van Holseberg, Elizabeth Kerr Gilger, Francis Kerr III, Henry W. Holseberg, Jr., Steven Williamson, Jr., Adam Joseph Van Kerr, Robert Kerr, Mark Kerr, Kerranna Williamson , Richard Kerr, Hope Kerr, Anna Kerr, Emilie Warren, Grace Williamson Larson, Andrew Kerr, Andrew Warren and Sarah Warren; 20 great-grandchildren: Brady Keith, Benjamin Keith, Robert Keith, William Holseberg, Wyatt Holseberg, Charles Anderson Kerr, Annalee Kerr, Rose Kerr, Evan Gilger, Noah Gilger, Lilly Gilger, Alexander Kerr, Kennedy Kerr, Nathan Williamson, Hannah Williamson, Brendan Williamson, Audrey Larson, Thomas Kerr, Eleanor Kerr and Mary Kathryn Kerr. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 19, 2017, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with a Vigil Service at 5:30 PM, at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home West Ashley Chapel. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, March 20, 2017 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 5 St. Teresa Drive, Charleston, SC 29407. Interment will follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery, Charleston, SC. Flowers are appreciated, or memorial donations may be made to the Father John McCarthy Scholarship Society, 5 St. Teresa Drive, Charleston, SC 29407. My prayers for the Kerr family. Mrs. Kerr was an example of faith, family, and friends - not to mention a graceful lady. I will miss her smile and know that angels greeted her with welcome wings. Love to you, Ms. Van!
