Eva Chandler Obituary

Eva was the first girl and the fourth of 10 children of George Allen and Rossie Roberts Nave. She was born at home on July 20, 1927. Mom lost her valiant battle with cancer on Oct. 20, 2008. Her passing was peaceful. She loved to cook and sew at an early age and became very good at both. She designed and made a lovely wedding dress for her daughter. Her cooking was unsurpassed. She even won a national recipe contest in 1976.Mother and Daddy got married and Daddy went off to World War II. She really was a “Rosie the Riveter,” working at Engles Shipyard in Decatur while Daddy was serving our country. The two of them were true entrepreneurs; they owned and operated several businesses. She retired from UAH as food service director.Mom was a beautiful and intelligent woman and a wonderful mother. She must have been the perfect wife; she and Daddy were married almost 66 years.“Memaw” was the bestest grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved when the grandkids were around, she would spoil them rotten and reveled in the love and attention she received from them. She and Daddy especially enjoyed great-granddaughters Eva Rae and Allison; they were the light in her eyes.Eva loved being with friends and family, a very social lady, charter member of the Skyline Acres Garden Club, was a member of the Athens Garden Club and an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary.Mom never spoke an unkind word about anyone, her faith deep, and a member of Westview Church of Christ. She lived a long and fruitful life. Mother lived with all the vigor she could gather and always maintained the integrity and class of a genuine lady. She will be sorely missed. Eva is survived by her sweetheart, Grady; the proud mother of Mickey (Gail) Chandler of Ripley, Miss. and Vicki (Andy Stetz) Griffith of Tooele, Utah; “Memaw” to Kelli (Stevie) Barnes of Walnut, Miss., Craig (Micah) Chandler of Booneville, Miss., Amy (Steve) Abernathy of Athens, Andrea (Ned) Hallett of Tooele, Utah, and Steve (Tammy) Griffith of South Rim, Utah; 14 great-grandchildren and a great-grandson due in February.Special sister to Clayton Nave, George (Martha) Nave, Ted (Janice) Nave, Evelyn (Bill) Davis, Merle (Buddy) Green, and Georgie (Jerry) Brazier. Most adoring sister-in-law and friend to Donald (Susan) Chandler, Richard (Shirley) Chandler, Dorothy Stewart and Marie Nave.Preceded in death by her parents and brothers, James, Bud and Cecil Nave; brother-in-law, William H. Stewart.Visitation is today from 5 to 9 p.m. Services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at Spry Funeral Home in Athens.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Miss Eva was a fine beautiful Christian Lady and she will be missed by everyone who knew her. I have so many happy memories that I truly treasure of her, Grady and the family. Take comfort that she is making beautiful gardens in Heaven with our Heavenly Father.

Mrs. Eva was my bible class teacher years ago at Gooch Lane. As a child, I loved it when my parents allowed me to sit by her at services. I enjoyed hearing her sing beautiful praises to the Lord. She and Mr. Grady were wonderful friends to my grandparents (Bud and Gladys Graham). Please know your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
