Eugene Perluke Obituary

Eugene V. Perluke, age 78, a resident of Slocum Township, died Friday morning, February 18, 2005, at his home, following an illness. He was born September 12, 1926, in the Hanover Section of Nanticoke, and was a son of the late Charles and Anna Garvey Perluke.
He attended Nanticoke schools, and was an Army veteran of World War II, where he served in the infantry in the Southern Philippines. He was a member of Mountain Post No. 781 American Legion, Mountain Top, and a 50 year member of VFW Post No. 7918, Slocum Township. He was a member of the Catholic faith, and attended St. Jude's Church, Mountain Top, and St. Mary's Church, Our Lady Help of Christian, Dorrance Township.
He was a member of Teamsters Local No. 401, and was employed as a fleet mechanic for 42 years at Thomas C. Thomas Company, Wilkes-Barre. Mr. Perluke also did carpentry and woodworking. He was a member of the Lutherers, and was known for his hand crafted violins.
He was an avid outdoorsman, and a master rifleman. In the 1950s, as a stock car driver, he was the champion of the former Bones Stadium Speedway, Pittston. He was also a licensed pilot, and enjoyed flying Cessna aircraft.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Deborah Perluke; sister, Alvina Kwasny; brothers, George and Ed Perluke.
He is survived by his wife, the former Elna M. Hudack, with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage, March 4, 2004; four daughters, Deborah Hoeffner, R.N., Slocum Township; Elsie Dock, Mountain Top; Elizabeth Garber, Philadelphia; Elna Gene Williams, Dorrance Township; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Monday, February 21, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. from the McCune Funeral Home, 80 South Mountain Blvd., Mountain Top, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Dorrance Township, celebrated by the Rev. Mark G. Balczeniuk, Pastor. Entombment will be in the Mausoleum of St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Community Care, 385 Wyoming Avenue, Kingston, PA, 18704, or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
