Eugene Lucas Obituary

LUCAS, JR., Eugene Eugene Lucas, Jr., better known as: EG, Daddy, Pumpkin, Gene, Luke, and Lucas of Charleston, SC, died Thursday, May 3, 2007. Born February 23, 1933, in Florence, SC, he was the son of the late Eugene Sr., and Alma Bess Lucas. The family moved to Charleston, SC, where he grew up. The family was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Charleston. Mr. Lucas attended Simmonton Elementary, Burke High School and earned his Associate Degree from Trident Technical College in Charleston, SC. Eugene joined the army and served during the Korean War. He was married to Audrey J. Randolph Lucas and they had two sons. The family attended the Military Chapels throughout his military career in the US and abroad. During his military career he received the following honors and citations: Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stats, United Nations Service Medal, Purple Heart, Distinguished Unit Citation, Combat Infantry Badge, Good Conduct Medal and Sharpshooter Badge. He retired in 1971 with 20 years of active and honorable military service. Surviving are: a devoted wife, Audrey J. Randolph Lucas; two sons, Col. Carroll Lucas of Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, Dr. Curtis Lucas, Team Leader Veterans Center, Atlanta, Ga., one grandson, TSgt. Kendrick E. Lucas, US Air Force, Osan Air Base, Korea; one granddaughter, Chontell C. Lucas, Teacher, Columbia, SC; one sister, Argie L. Strong of Forestville, Maryland; four aunts, Pearl Timmons, of Baltimore, MD, Parnie Mae Thomas, of Timmonsville, SC, Eula Young and Bonnie Kay-James (Sylvester) of Lamar, SC; three sisters-in-law, Minnie Alston (Rev. William Alston), Reather R. Brown, and Viola Wright; three brothers-in-law, Rev. Arthur Randolph, Calvin Randolph, and Tom Strong; a host of devoted nieces, nephews, family and friends. Funeral services will be at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers, North Charleston, at 11:30, Monday, May 7, 2007. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 6, 2007, and from 10:30 to 11:30 Monday, May 7, 2007, at CAROLINA MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to National Kidney Foundation of S.C., 5000 Thurmond Mall Rm. 106, Columbia, S.C. 29201.
