Eugene M. Lesser James Island - Eugene M. Lesser, 75, of James Island, SC, died Friday, January 26, 2018, at his home. Gene was a director, teacher, and acting mentor who majorly impacted the lives of countless people. He was a loyal friend, formidable adversary, eager student of life, and the most remarkable and caring father to his only child, Catherine Hannah Lesser. He was a magnetic force with a brilliant mind and a deeply sensitive heart that will never be forgotten. In his time outside of the theater/classroom he was a fervent tennis player, avid reader, intense film buff, ardent lover of wine and zealous world traveler. He was passionate in everything he did and he believed in living well. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his late brothers Albert and Marvin. His passion for life will live on through his adoring daughter, along with his sister, Rita Berman; the apple of his eye, Max (the cat), and many other friends, relatives, and students all over the world. Family and friends will gather for a celebration of the sensational life for the always vibrant and charismatic Gene Lesser on Friday, February 9th, at 3pm at Silver Dollar (478 King St., Charleston, SC). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital to end childhood cancer or to MUSC to support the Hollings Cancer Center.
