Eugene Kaiser Obituary

Eugene McKenzie Kaiser WALTERBORO - Eugene McKenzie Kaiser passed away peacefully at his home on October 25, 2016 with his wife Dorothy by his side. Gene was the son of Harold and Enid Kaiser; grandson of Julius and Anna Kaiser and Ezra and Ona McKenzie. He was born in West Frankfort, Illinois on September 11, 1926. Gene is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Welge Kaiser; three children Kevin Eugene, Kimberlea Elizabeth ( husband David Fortin) and Kathleen Erin (husband Doug Holmes). Gene had one grandson, Samuel Benjamin. Gene grew up with two brothers, Patrick Kaiser (who preceded him in death) and Dr. Jay Kaiser. Gene served his nation with honor during World War II. He was a member of an underwater demolition squad in the Navy. He participated in several campaigns in the South Pacific Theater. Gene returned home following the war and attended Purdue University where he graduated with a degree in engineering. Gene was an accomplished musician, playing clarinet and saxophone in various capacities throughout his life. He also enjoyed working in community theatre, particularly during his years in St. Louis and Memphis. Gene worked for Bemis Co. Inc. for over 40 years holding many positions during his tenure. He retired as Director of Quality Assurance. He and his wife retired to Walterboro, South Carolina in 1996 where he enjoyed many friends and golfed regularly well into his 80s. A memorial service commemorating Gene's life will be held Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Parker Rhoden Funeral Home in Walterboro, South Carolina. Memorials may be made to Purdue University, ASCPA or a local pet shelter of the donor's choice. Special thanks to Hospice of Charleston and to Bernice Perry and Linda Terry who provided kind and compassionate care to Gene and the Kaiser family.
