Eugene Johnson Obituary

Eugene "Rick" Johnson Charleston - Eugene Richards "Rick" Johnson, 84, of Charleston, SC, husband of Mary Patricia "Pat" Johnson, entered into eternal rest Sunday, December 26, 2021. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Monday, January 3, 2022 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1695 Raoul Wallenberg Blvd., Charleston. The Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Fort Johnson Road, James Island. The family will greet friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Rick was born in Charleston on July 16, 1937 to William Louis and Dorothy Linton Johnson. He graduated from Bishop England High School (class of 1956) and then attended Clemson University. In November of 1959, Rick became an apprentice at the Charleston Naval Shipyard, where he worked as a Patternmaker for thirty-three years, retiring in June of 1993. Besides his work at the Shipyard, Rick completed 26 years in the Naval Reserve and retired as a Chief Petty Officer in December of 1993. Rick married Mary Patricia Pattillo on October 9, 1965 (married 56 years) and they are the proud parents of three children: Mary Theresa Belton (David) of Buckhead, Georgia, Eugene Richards Johnson, Jr. (Krisi) of Charleston and William Edward Johnson (Paige) of Charleston. They have been blessed with seven grandchildren: Thomas and Lilly Johnson of Charleston, William and Henry Johnson of Charleston, Daniela Perry (Cole) of Smyrna, Georgia, Caitlin Belton of Griffin Georgia and David Richards Belton of Buckhead, Georgia. There are also many nieces and nephews. Rick was predeceased by his parents and brothers, William (Bill) Louis Johnson, Jr. and Anthony (Tony) Linton Johnson and sister, Annette Johnson Furlong, all of Charleston. He has one surviving sister, Helen Johnson Kennedy of Charleston. Rick was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 704 and the Perpetual Adoration Group at Blessed Sacrament Church for more than 25 years. He also was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church since October 1966, when it was established. After his retirement, Rick worked in property management and maintenance and traveled as a service representative to Home Depot and Lowes stores in coastal South Carolina, Georgia and North Carolina. His biggest joy was the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, family requests that memorials be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church Organ Fund, 1695 Wallenberg Blvd, Charleston, SC 29407 or Lutheran Hospice, 1885 Rifle Range Road, Suite 46, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. Arrangements by James A McAlister (843) 766-1365. Visit our guestbook at legacy.com/obituaries/charleston
