Babe and Family,

So sorry to hear about the passing of Gene. He was such a gentle man. I got to meet Gene when he worked at Roper and saw him often when visiting Walmart. Him and Babe were neighbors of a cousin of mine for a while also. Take care Babe and family and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Uncle Gene was my favorite uncle and first crush, On Christmas he would come to our house on Beaumont Street in North Toledo where we lived across from grandma and grandpa, and sit down on the floor and play with our toys with us. Later when he would come home on leave from the military, he would bring gifts, an alligator head purse for Sophie and Isabel, and silk pajamas for me. As an adult he remained my favorite, listening to my troubles and giving history of the problem and sound advice. Later years we were distant in miles but communicated by cards and phone calls. We came to visit one year and played golf. As we moved hole to hole, I kept leaving a club behind. He joked that by the time we got to the end of the course, I had an empty bag. He was always quick with his wit, and had that explosive laugh I will never forget.
I am so thankful he was aware when I came to visit and managed a joke or two, asking how I got my cousin Mickey on the plane! He knew flying was not Micks favorite thing to do. Our world was a funnier place with you in our life.
I will never forget you Unk. I am sure your mom and dad, Toto and Izzy were waiting for you with a cold beer and a kick in the pants!
