Ernest Lawrence Melin, Sr. Mt. Pleasant - Ernest Lawrence Melin, Sr., 95, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of the late Octavia Blackwell Melin, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at the Veterans Victory House in Walterboro. The family will receive friends Saturday, March 31, 2018, beginning at 2:00 pm and concluding with military honors at J. HENRY STUHR, INC, MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, at 3:00 pm. Ernest was born January 17, 1922, in Raleigh, North Carolina, son of the late Ernest Alfred Melin and the late Onnie Gertrude Couch Melin. He attended Mars Hill College and North Carolina State University. Ernest served in the United States Army Air Corps in World War II and the United States Air Force through the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ernest L. and Kara Melin, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and daughter, Tina G. Melin of Cherokee, NC; two grandsons, Matthew Thomas Melin of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Adam M. Melin of Coronado, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a brother, Charles E. Melin.
