My first encounter with Fritz was when I was in South Carolina as Miss Sun Fun Maine 1960. When presenting him with a gift from My Gov Reed,I gently tried to kiss him on his cheek, but he turned his head and caught me full upon, which became the famous "Buss" as you all call it in the South! So funny.Relieved we both had humor within!
He was such a gentleman, and I admired his thoughts for the South which he shared with me when I became Miss Sun Fun USA, and represented the Grand Strand for a year.
I was then blessed to be called back for the 40th festival, and once again had the incredible pleasure to reunite with Fritz and his wonderful wife at the Dunes, where he was recruiting for another term.
Such fond memories.
Also with Strom Thurmond. They were great men, whom I shall always keep to memory.
The sand got in my shoes,, so to speak, so my thoughts of your beloved south carries a deep sweet place in my heart, even though I am a "damn Yankee!"
My warmest thoughts are sent to family and friends for their loss, but know we shall all meet again on the shores of the Strand, and watch the sun go to rest beyond the lapping gentle waves.
Bless
