Ernest Cortez Obituary

Ernest U. Cortez N. CHARLESTON - Ernest U Cortez (known to everyone as Ernie), was born in San Antonio, Texas, on May 16, 1935. Ernie, was a Saxophone player from the age of fifteen. He moved to Charleston in the sixties and had a band called "Blue Notes" for over 40 years. He met Mary Anne soon after arriving and they were married for 60 years. They raised two children, George and Lisa. There never was a kinder man and he will be missed by everyone who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Mary Anne; sister, Anita Cuellar; and two brothers, Frank and Robert. Special thanks to our niece, Elaine White. A Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. Burial to follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens.

Ernie was a great neighbor and friend. I remember when mother passed, Ernie was there for us especially for my Dad.

Mary Anne, I am so sorry to learn of Ernie's passing and send you my sincere sympathy and condolences. He was one of the sweetest people and a wonderful neighbor. I pray that he has found eternal rest, that God's perpetual light shines on him and that he has been granted peace through all of eternity. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
