Emmie Steen Smith N. Charleston - Emmie Steen Smith, 100, of North Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Joseph F. Smith entered into eternal rest Sunday, June 10, 2018. Her funeral service will be held Thursday, June 14, 2018 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC. NORTH AREA CHAPEL, 2119 Dorchester Road at 1:00 p.m. Interment, Riverview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday in Stuhr's North Area Chapel from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Emmie was born April 23, 1918 in Lee County, South Carolina, daughter of the late John F. Steen and Tera Myrtle Marshall Steen. At the young age of 15, she went to work for American Tobacco Company. Later, she and her husband owned and operated a community grocery store. Emmie was a charter member of Westview Baptist Church, formerly known as Glyn Terrace Baptist Church, where she kept the church nursery for over 50 years. She cherished time spent gardening and watching children play sports. She is survived by her two daughters: Louise Parish (Lee Briggs) and Ara Potter (William); sister, Johnnie Mae Winn; daughter-in-law, Gail Smith; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by her son, Jessie R. Smith; two sisters: Ora Dell and Barbara; and five brothers: Roland, Hazel, Willard, Hobert, and Stanley.
