Emily C. Jones MT. PLEASANT - Emily C. Jones, 81, born in Anderson, S.C. formerly of Lancaster, S.C., and most recent resident of Mount Pleasant, S.C. died March 4, 2017. Emily lived in Lancaster with her husband Dace W. Jones, Jr. for thirty years, and retired to Mount Pleasant in 1995. They were married for 62 years, had three children, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. After marrying at age 18, Emily moved with Dace to an apartment near Washington and Lee University so Dace could finish school. Upon graduation he entered the army and they moved to Seattle. This was the first of many moves, and after having her second child, Emily started back to school to finish her degree. Many years and a third child later, she finished her degree at Winthrop College, a college near Lancaster, where they were living. Upon graduation Emily applied for a job as a social worker with the Lancaster City schools. The school system did not have a social worker, nor had they ever heard of a school social worker, until she wrote the job description and told them what she could do. She was hired and worked for seven years helping under privileged and handicapped students. She had a passion for learning, for helping others and for life. She spent countless hours as a community volunteer, a Sunday school teacher, Girl Scout leader, and eventually selling educational toys. Her interest soon took her on her own spiritual journey and that brought her to Unity Church. The teachings resonated with her, brought her joy and peace, and soon got her completing the studies to be a licensed Unity teacher. She and like-minded friends then started The Learning Center to share their spiritual journey with others and encouraged people in their own search. Emily touched the lives of many people. Some lives were made better by her thoughtfulness and loving spirit and will never know her name because many of her deeds were done without notice or her taking "credit" for bringing a little light to their world. Children at Christmas, the people who just showed up at our house looking for work, or for a meal. People who just needed someone to listen. Emily was there for all of them. She is survived by her son David of Mount Pleasant, and her daughter Carlan Gombert of Savannah, Ga., four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her son Dace W. Jones, III (Tripp) and her husband Dace W. Jones, Jr. The memorial service will be held Thursday June 15, 2017, in Mount Pleasant, S.C. at Franke at Seaside Lutheran Chapel at 2:00 pm. Address is 1885 Rifle Range Rd. Mount Pleasant S.C. 29464. Visit our guestbook at
