Elsie Locklair Obituary

Elsie Metts Locklair, 101, of St. Stephen, SC, passed away peacefully at her residence on Wednesday, August 13, 2025. Born December 19, 1923, in Bannisterdown, SC, she was the daughter of Henry John Metts and Minnie Peagler Metts. Her funeral will be 12:00 PM Saturday, August 16, 2025, in the St. Stephen Evangelical Church, with interment following at the St. Stephen Episcopal Church Cemetery directed by Dial-Murray Funeral Home, Moncks Corner. The family will receive friends at the church from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Friday. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the St. Stephen Evangelical Church, 150 Church Rd., St. Stephen, SC 29479. A devoted member of the St. Stephen Evangelical Church, Mrs. Locklair was known for her love of flower gardening, crocheting, quilting, and candle wicking. Her embroidery was admired by many, and she was celebrated for her great cooking skills. Mrs. Locklair also cherished family trips to the mountains. She was preceded in death by two sons, Jimmy Milton Locklair and Wayne "Tugger" Locklair, four sisters, Carrie Kirby, Liza Harris, Ola Wadford, and Eloise Brown, and a brother, Charlie Metts. She was the widow of John Osmond "Jack" Locklair, Sr. Surviving are two daughters, Linda L. Jackson and her husband, Henry, of Charleston, and Faye L. Smith and her husband, Lloyd, of St. Stephen; a son, John O. Locklair, Jr., and his wife, Nancy, of Georgetown; nine grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and twenty great-great grandchildren, all of whom will miss her dearly.

I loved this lady!!! I grew up with Faye and ate many meals there. I can vouch for her being one of the best cooks in St. Stephens. She always made you feel like you were part of the family. I am so sorry I did not know this earlier but I do want to send my heartfelt condolences to the family. She was a beautiful person and will certainly be missed!! Sending love to you all!
