Elsie Bennett Obituary

Elsie Levon Bennett SANTEE, SC - Elsie Levon Bennett "Judy" died peacefully in her sleep of natural causes on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 in Santee, SC at the age of 88. She was born, Elsie Levon Woodward, on November 30, 1924, in Tarpon Springs, FL. She joined the Women's Army Corps "WAC" and served as a clerk at AAB, Key Field, Mississippi and was discharged on May 27, 1944. She then married the now late Richard Lewis Bennett on June 18, 1944. He was the love of her life. During their lives together, they lived at Eglin Air Force Base, FL; in New Hyde Park, NY; Binghamton, NY; and Vestal, NY until relocating to Lake Wales, FL in 1975. While in New York, she served as Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Vestal, NY, Chapter 864. After moving back to Florida, she was a member of the Lake Wales Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ladies Auxiliary, VFW Post 2420. Judy, a loving Mother and Wife, was an accomplished and avid bowler with many trophies and honors to her name. She loved to dance and she enjoyed playing Bingo in her spare time. She recently moved to Santee, SC to live her final years with care from her family. She is survived by her children, Donald Albert Bennett, Chapin, SC, Roger Peter Bennett, Santee, SC, William Grant Bennett, Newnan, GA, and Laura Marie Slinkman, Tequesta, FL. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 9th at 2pm in the Chapel at Florida National Cemetery, located in Bushnell, FL. Judy will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband, Richard, following the service. Memorials may be made to VFW Post 2420, Scholarship Fund, Lake Wales Florida or Grove Park Hospice, Orangeburg, SC.
