Ellen Catherine Cantwell Clark AUSTIN, TX - Ellen Catherine Cantwell Clark, widow of Robert Lorenzo Clark III, died December 30, 2022 at the age of 93 in Austin, TX, surrounded by loving family members. Ellen, a fourth generation Charlestonian, was born April 30, 1929 in Charleston, SC, the daughter of the late William Patrick Cantwell and the late Rose Flanagan Cantwell. Ellen was a 1947 graduate of Ashley Hall and a 1951 graduate of the College of Charleston, Charleston, SC. Ellen married Robert L. Clark III in July 1949. Following his graduation from The Citadel and entry into the United States Air Force, they served at bases throughout the United States, and in Canada and Germany. Ellen was a strong woman and a tireless worker. She loved being the mother of four sons and spent long periods raising them independently while Robert was on extended military duty travel or in Vietnam. She also made many lasting friendships while playing decades of tennis. Surviving are four sons and daughters-in-law: Robert L. and Mary Jo Clark IV, William C. and Christine Clark, Stephen T. and Joan Clark, and M. Timothy and Toni Clark; eleven grandchildren: Lindsay Moore (Tip), Sarah Seigle (Bobby), Robert Andrew Clark, Ellen Clark (Peter), William Clark, Jr., Elizabeth Francis (James), Catherine Clark, Anne Clark, Robert Clark (Natalie), Laura Riebe (Caleb), and Kathleen Clark. Ellen is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren and two nieces, Marjorie Cantwell and Pamela Cantwell Suggs (Forest). Mrs. Clark was predeceased by her husband of fifty-six years, Robert L. Clark III, and one brother, William P. Cantwell, Jr., his wife, Helen McAuliffe, and one niece, Patrice Cantwell.
