Elizabeth Townsend Obituary

Elizabeth Hunter Townsend MT. PLEASANT - Elizabeth Hunter Townsend, 85, widow of James D. Townsend, Sr., passed away peacefully at Grace Hall in Mt. Pleasant on June 8, 2009. Born in Whitmire and raised in Lancaster, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Eunice Stuart and Edward Orlando Hunter. Mrs. Townsend was the sixth of seven children and is survived by one older sister, Eunice Stuart Hunter Stribling of Highlands, N.C. She became a talented pianist with training during high school in Lancaster and at Limestone College in Gaffney. She served as the pipe organist at Main Street United Methodist Church in Dillon, SC for over 30 years, retiring in 1984. In addition, "Lib" worked as a bookkeeper at Dillon High School for many years. She and Jim, her husband of 43 years, have four children, three grandchildren and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Left to carry her legacy are children, Leah T. Martin (Jami), Johns Creek, GA, Sydney H. Townsend, Mt. Pleasant, J. Duncan Townsend, Seattle, WA, Alan E. Townsend (Patty T.), Mt. Pleasant, and grandchildren, Allison Orvin, Evans and Anna Hollis Townsend. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, at KANNADAY'S FUNERAL HOME on Hwy. 9, Dillon. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, at Main Street United Methodist Church, followed by interment at Greenlawn Cemetery.
