Elizabeth Pugh Obituary

PUGH, Elizabeth COLUMBIA - Elizabeth LaBruce Pugh of Columbia died peacefully on Sunday, May 27, 2007. She was born in Savannah, Georgia, to the late George H. and Elizabeth Heyward LaBruce and grew up in Charleston. She attended Memminger High School and graduated from the College of Charleston; earned a Masters of Library Science from Emory University; and worked for the United States government as a mobile librarian in Germany after World War II. Mrs. Pugh was married to the late Albert E. Pugh and they made their home in Columbia where she was a reference librarian at McKissick Library of the University of South Carolina. After her retirement from USC, she pursued her love of learning as a docent for the South Carolina State Museum. Dr. and Mrs. Pugh attended Trinity Cathedral. Surviving are daughter, Ellen Heyward Pugh of Peachtree City, Ga.; son, Robert Lewis Pugh and his wife Katherine Kearney of Frankfort, Ky.; son, David William Pugh of Ravenel, S. C.; granddaughter, Emily DeLon Pugh of Frankfort, Ky.; a sister, Katherine L. Rowe and her husband, T. Kenneth Rowe of Alexandria, Va.; and a sister Selina L. Johnson of Savannah, Ga. A graveside service will be held at 4:30 PM on Friday, June 1, 2007, in Greenlawn Cemetery in Columbia, the Reverend Robert Reigel presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the South Carolina State Museum or a charity of one's choice.
