Dear Elisabeth - words still fail me when I think of everything you went through in your courageous battle with your illness. I hope that you are observing from heaven all of the wonderful occasions your family have celebrated and the arrival of another grandchild. You are missed by so many people but your legacy lives on. I only met Elisabeth once--the day Atlee received his masters degree from NC State. I recall thinking that she was so beautiful and it was obvious that she had a beautiful heart. To Steve and the Lenes family; we are so sorry to learn of the home call of your dear wife Elisabeth. There is great comfort knowing she is with her Lord whom she loved and faithfully served. As recipients of that love and care, we have not forgotten the kindness and hospitality shown to us years ago. That visit revealed a family who loved the Lord and loved life! No doubt, those qualities have made an impact on many through the years. May the Lord surround you in His arms of love and give you the comfort and peace that only He can give during this time of sorrow and grief. Absent from the body (no more earthly distress), but present with Lord (healed and rejoicing). There is no greater joy! We are praying for you!

Dear Elisabeth...you brought so much joy to every person you met and made both Tatty and I feel like part of your family - Your Tuesday communal suppers were truly inspirational and we so enjoyed meeting all of your children and enjoyed our lively debates at supper in the kitchen about world events, our Faith and life experiences. Quite a few years a ago, before Elisabeth got sick, I assigned Psalm 84 to her as a focus for my prayers for her. This Psalm seems even more appropriate to her now.
What a gift and privilege it has been to walk the journey of life with her and now to continue it with you all.

Dear Dr. Lenes and the Lenes Family,
I was saddened to hear of your wife's passing when I went into work yesterday. I can not express to you how my heart aches for each of you as you live through this part of life. But as we have talked before, Dr. Lenes, death is a part of life, but as Christians we know that eternal life awaits us when this life is over. There are no words that bring total comfort at a time like this, but know that you and your family remain in my thoughts and prayers and that the journey that you both shared during this struggle with those observing from the outside, spoke volumes to those around you. Hold on to the hope that one day a grand reunion will take place in heaven and you will once again be reunited. Until then, let those who love and care for you help to ease the pain and share your loss by keeping her memory alive. May you find comfort in knowing that there are people surrounding you all that are lifting you before the throne of grace during your time of loss. My heart grieves with all of you over the loss of this precious child of God. Elizabeth and I knew one another when I was in Children's ministry at St. Philip's and I never knew a finer lady. Once when I saw her with the children at Chick Fil A planting pansies as a community project I was amazed at her enthusiasm and devotion. She touched the lives of many people and I rejoice with her as she dances in Heaven. Praise God!

Elisabeth, I will always remember your openness, kindness, and ability to embrace those around you. Thank you for teaching me about generosity as I watched you and Steven these past 35 years journey together through marriage and family and career. Thank you for showing me how to live life to its fullest as I am sure you are now doing in Heaven. I will miss you.
