To the Wright family, i am deeply sadden to learn of Mr. Lijah going home. When visiting home, going into the store will not be the same. I would go in the store and speak and ask him do you remember me, every time he would say" yea, your Bubba and Tiney son". Don't know if he knew my name, that doesn't matter, i knew his. GOD blessing to your family.

Mr. Elijah Wright was a GREAT PILLARin the community no one fought so hard for his community and wanted so much for it. Mr. Elijah Wright was involved in everything. Even if he was not there he still knew about it. He was a kind, sweet, and generous person. Cross Community will truly miss this angel, but he will be forever in our hearts. My hope and prayer is that his dream will not died with him that the family run his store and continue to make him proud. He loved what he did his store was apart of him. Besides where else can you get good bacon, good rice pudding, lunchmeat, ham, hamhocks. Only at Wrights. The Smalls, Levine,Glover, and Broughton Family will be praying for you. The Wright Family.

No one could find a better person than Elijah. I first came to know Elijah when he worked at the Charleston Air Force Base SC. I was stationed at Charleston during that time. One day Elijah came to my shop and ask if I could help him in obtaining a valve that he needed for the machinery that was used to paint the aircraft. He told me without the valve, the C-141 could not been painted as scheduled. I was able to locate a valve for him. He informed me if I ever needed anything for my shop, let him know.
After he and I retired, I did not hear from Elijah until one day while working with DOT, I was in Cross and I stopped at this country store. Not knowing that Elijah was the owner of the store, I entered. To whom I met, was my dear old friend Elijah. We sat and talk and he made me a rice pudding sandwich for lunch. Talk about good, that rice pudding was what I needed while talking to my good old friend Elijah. During my visits at his store, I came to know his wife Dorothy and his daughter Darlene. Elijah and I would always talk about the old days at the base. Some times, I would kid with Dorothy about selling me her old 1964 Chevy.
When I finally retired from DOT, I did not hear from Elijah as much. In May 2011, I read in the newspaper that my friend had been beaten and shot and was in the hospital. I called and talk to his children Thomas and Darlene about his condition and the hospital he was admitted. I went to that hospital and was allowed to see my old friend Elijah. He assured me he would be alright and was glad I came to see him. That's the last time I saw and spoken to my friend Elijah.
Dorothy, Darlene, Thomas and family, I want you all know that Elijah was like a brother to me. I will always remember him for who he was, a loyal loving husband, father, brother, and friend. My prayers and thoughts to all of you. I know you will miss him as I will also.... Jack Shiflet

My consolences to the Wright family. I remember the first time that I drove to Cross. Mr. Burton introduced me to Mr. Wright and he made me feel so welcome, truely showing the type of old fashioned southern hospitality which represented the Cross community. He was such a warm and gentle person who will truely be missed. No one could represent the Cross community better.
