I have just learned of Elie's passing and I am in shock. I worked with Elie on a project in Bluffton, SC in 2020-2021 and I so enjoyed his insight, knowledge and sense of humor. Even though I practiced architecture for over 40 years, it never failed to amaze me that I would learn new things every time I was with Elie. My belated thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

Dear Kathy and Elise,
I am so sad to read of Elie’s passing. I remember his smile and sense of humor even though it had been many years since we had seen each other. Please know you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

I just learned of Elie's passing. He and I met in freshman algebra at Wando High School. We were assigned seats next to each other. We both struggled with algebra, barely getting by the first grading period. We realized that if we didn't start to take it seriously and study, we would be doomed! We began helping each other and studying together and our grades improved immensely, so much so that our teacher questioned whether we were cheating. She soon learned that we were just taking it a bit more seriously!

He was funny, had a sharp wit, and was great to be around. He cheered you on when you needed it and gave strong guidance when you strayed. I moved back to Texas at the end of the school year and the years quickly passed. I often thought of him, and was very appreciative of the time we spent together because we both set the foundations for our future careers in that algebra class. I decided to look him up and tell him that I was thankful for our time together and the great impact he had on me. I was heartbroken to learn of his recent passing. My condolences to his family. Thank you for sharing Elie with the world - he was truly a wonderful person.

Dear Kathy and Elise,

While my condolences may come with a delay, they are no less heart-felt.
The news of Elie’s passing came as such a shock. In mid-January he completed a review of a project at our office. Over lunch Elie shared his vision of his retirement, planning on returning to NH. He shared memories of growing up, with a classic anecdotal story. He had such passion for his work and clearly enjoyed the intellectual discourse associated with project reviews. While I only knew him for about a year, he left a lasting impression.
The sudden passing of such a good soul saddens me so very much.
May you find the support you need and cherish the happy memories.

With sincerest condolences, Annette

I would spend every minute of the summer in Nana and Jiddy’s house with Megan. This is where I first met and would see Elie often. I was known as “Little Molly” in the Joseph household. As “Little Molly,” Elie would tower over me, but was the sweetest and most gentle soul. He never had to, but he was the one who was always ready to play, lend a helping hand, and as Megan and I would grow up, give advice on anything from the sports we were playing, the camps we would attend, the drawings we would attempt, and anything else that was going on.

I have so many vivid memories of Elie walking through Nana and Jiddy’s back gate, putting his things down on the black metal table, and playing outside with Megan and I. This man with such a commanding presence was never too busy to stop, say “Hi, girls!” with his soft smile and just join in on whatever fun we were creating for ourselves. Elie was special to me then and will always be.

I am so fortunate to have known Elie and experienced his playful side and that he was part of my family. From our family, we are all thinking of you, Kathy and Elise. We are so sorry that this loss has to be yours to bear. We are here for you all - whatever you need. Sending love and keeping everyone in our prayers.

All the love, always,
The Synder Family

God snagged another good one!
My condolences to the entire Macaron Family and Friends. In the two short years I knew Elie, I only had the pleasure working with him on three projects, as I work for an Architectural firm that is out of state. His knowledge and dedication, both to the profession and to his family, were very apparent in our conversations. I´m sure, knowing Elie will continue to inspire all of us as we continue on our individual journeys.
You will be missed by many, Elie!

My deepest sympathies to your family. I only worked directly with Elie a few times at DHEC, but when I asked for his help on my projects, he was always willing and put time and effort into it. From my experience the last year and a half at DHEC, if someone said Elie's name, the next thing you were going to hear is what a great guy he was and how knowledgeable he was. Prayers for your family.

Our heartfelt condolenses to the Macaron family. Elie was a treasure to those of us in the hospital planning, design and construction business. It is fair to say that Elie Macaron single-handedly did more, over the course of his career, for patient and staff safety in S.C. than any corresponding team of professionals. We loved the guy and will sorely miss him. As for all the rising "young Jedi" healthcare architects, it saddens us that you will miss the honor of a little "coaching" from the master; Elie. Respectfully.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family. I had the pleasure of working with Elie for several years on projects in the Charleston area and he always made meetings and site visits more enjoyable. We will miss his willingness to work with a team for the best outcome at a facility, and I will personally miss discussing his ideas for inventions. Like many others here, I was also a "Dude", but early-on my title became "Tie-guy" for overdressing at inspections. I learned my lesson but kept the title. Elie will be greatly missed.

Sorry to hear the news of Elie's passing. I was fortunate enough to get to know him over the years through work with Senior Living projects in Charleston. Elie was top notch in his field and a pleasure to work with. I thought I was the only other architect he called "Dude", but reading through these replies, it looks like I was not alone. So to Elie - "OK, Dude", You will be missed".

Losing Elie is a terrible loss to everyone that knew him. I've known and worked with Elie for over 17 years. We first met as he was inspecting Aging Gracefully, Senior Care Services to open for business in 2004. I'm sure that most would agree that when you meet Elie for the first time in a business setting, he appeared to be a very intimidating man. His knowledge on the subject of architecture, construction, and fire life safety was undeniable. Elie has always been someone that was willing to help you if you needed it, share his knowledge with you, and stand up for you when it came to standing up for something he believed in. I will always be grateful for everything he has done for me. We did not only lose a wonderful colleague, but a true friend. I will miss you buddy. Rest in Peace.

Kathy and Elise,

No words can express my sympathy. To most of us, Elie was bigger than life...smart, caring, a man of faith, a mentor, and a true friend. I first meet Elie in 1999 as a fellow architect. We hit it off immediately and our friendship grew over the years. I had the pleasure to have worked directly with for several years at DHEC from 2012 to 2014. We both experienced difficult personal times in 2014 that only made our bond stronger, and our appreciation for family and friends even greater. I will miss him deeply but I am sure glad that I met. I can still hear his voice at the end of every telephone..."Take care dude, if there is anything you need, just call". My thoughts and prayers go out to the Macaron family.

Elie was a special man. I have worked with him off and on for quite a few years now. He always brought some sort of fun to every inspection, even when he was saying something wasn’t done right - constantly placing wagers and helping people understand his wealth of knowledge. He was definitely a fountain of knowledge that if he felt you were worthy, he would share with you. I will miss him and the camaraderie with him. My thoughts and prayers are extended to his wife and daughter as well as the rest of his family.

To Elie’s wife and daughter and his DHEC Family- Elie was a special man who always had something to teach us and used his humor to get his point across. We enjoyed working with him as he helped us with our medical projects. You could tell how much his family meant to him by the way he talked about his wife and daughter. We enjoyed talking about his dream of a cabin on the lake. He will be missed.
