Effie Siegling Bowers COLUMBUS, GA - Effie Siegling Bowers, of Columbus, Georgia, entered into eternal rest on January 19, 2022. She was born in Charleston, South Carolina, November 19, 1921 to Lucile Bee Lebby (1892-1987) and Rudolph Siegling (1889-1926). After Rudolph's death, her mother married Charles "Pa-Pa" Stevens Dwight (1884-1963). Effie attended the Ashley Hall School through eighth grade, graduated from Chatham Hall School, Danville, Virginia, attended the College of Charleston, then graduated from Sweet Briar College, near Lynchburg, Virginia. After that, she attended Columbia University School of Nursing in New York City. She met Corporal Lloyd G. Bowers, Jr. at her nursing station when he was stationed in Charleston during World War II. They married in 1946 at St. Phillips Church in Charleston before moving to Columbus, Georgia. Their marriage produced six children, nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Her husband pre-deceased her in 1994. Effie attended Spoleto events as often as she could and maintained an interest in Charleston history, culture, and architecture all her life. She also maintained lifelong relationships with all her "mud-pie friends" from her childhood and her "Vixen" friends from Sweet Briar. Effie supported music programs in Columbus, even hosting "Musicales" in her home.
