Edwin Rinehimer Obituary

Edwin "Ed" Rinehimer Seabrook Island - Edwin (Ed) John Rinehimer, 72, of Seabrook Island, South Carolina, joined the Saints before him in eternal rest on September 24, 2017. His passing was peaceful, at home with his loving family. Ed was born on April 6, 1945 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania to the late Gordon Paul Rinehimer and Marian Bennett Rinehimer. Ed was a graduate of Loyalsock Township High School in Williamsport, Pennsylvania and Albright College in Reading, Pennsylvania, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and met his wife of fifty years, Lois (Young) Rinehimer. Upon graduation from college, Ed served three years in the United States Army, as a Special Agent in Military Intelligence, after which he joined The Aetna Insurance Company as a Casualty Underwriter. During his six years with The Aetna, Ed was transferred to the home office in Hartford, Connecticut. In 1977 Ed left The Aetna and joined Travelers Insurance Companies, where he spent the remainder of his career. Ed was a Commercial Casualty Underwriter, serving on several drafting committees with the Insurance Services Office, and later serving as an expert witness in countless insurance coverage actions. Ed founded The Premier Insurance Company of Massachusetts, a wholly-owned Personal Lines subsidiary of Travelers, where he served as President and CEO. Ed also became President and CEO of two other wholly-owned Personal Insurance subsidiaries of Travelers, First Trenton and First Floridian Insurance Companies. Ed retired in 2004 as a Senior Vice President in Travelers Personal Lines Division. In 2007, Ed and his wife Lois realized their dream of retiring to Seabrook Island, South Carolina, where Ed became involved in the leadership of the Seabrook Island Property Owners Association ("SIPOA"). As President of SIPOA, Ed facilitated the negotiations resulting in Captain Sam's Cut, for the restoration of Seabrook Island's North Beach. Ed was a member of the Kiawah-Seabrook Exchange Club, a server at Church of Our Saviour on Johns Island, and enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels. Ed loved to play golf and tennis, kayaking, and was an avid fan of UConn Women's Basketball. One of the highlights of Ed's life was when he and Lois took their grandson to the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Ed is survived by his loving wife Lois, his son Eric and daughter-in-law Brenda (Coons) Rinehimer and their children Emmet and Molly, his daughter Beth Naomi Rinehimer and his beloved Goldendoodle, Joy. A celebration of Ed's life will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Church of Our Saviour, 4416 Betsy Kerrison Parkway on Johns Island, South Carolina, followed by a reception at the Seabrook Island Club. Irene and I are reading with sadness of the passing of this relatively young man. He was a doer in the insurance business and continued that active pace in retirement to the great benefit of our Seabrook Island community. Condolences to Lois, one of Irene's golfing companions, and the family.
