2016 Grandfather Mountain Highland Games
Larry Satchwell
December 22, 2019
Ed introduced himself to me at my first ever Highland Games in 1978 at Stone Mountain Georgia. He judged me at almost all the games I enjoyed participating in for the next couple of decades. I love to tell the story about the caber. It was not my best event. It didn't matter if it was raining, sunshine, cold or hot, every time I tossed the log, Ed would call 45 degrees. After a couple years of this I asked him, how can it always be the same score? He said you need to get better at it and when you do, I can call something better, I can just judge what I see. I took that advice to heart and went home and started practicing. From then on, I rarely tossed a 45.
Thanks for the advice Ed and your friendship.

As our Father God had blessed Mr. Holcombe with many years and accomplishments, may He also bless Mr. Holcombe's family with peace and healing of your loss. I worked with Mr. Holcombe over 45 years ago for a short time. He was always very upbeat, cheerful and a delight to work with. May your sweet memories of him comfort you in the days to come.
