Edward Weathers Obituary

WEATHERS, Edward ST. GEORGE - Edward Weathers, 89, widower of Helen Behling Weathers, 501 Raysor Street, St. George died Friday, February 03, 2006 at his residence. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the St. George United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Wash Belangia and Rev. Jim Weathers officiating. Burial will follow in the St. George Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Donald A. Behling, MD; Edward M. Behling, MD; Michael K. Phillips, Jr.; Cecil J. Marchant, Jr.; Kevin Weathers; Darrell Weathers; Larry V. Weathers; and Sammie Harrison. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Class of 1933. Visitation will be 4:00 to 6:00 PM Saturday at BRYANT FUNERAL HOME. Mr. Weathers was born March 22, 1916 in Pregnall a son of the late Marion Edward and Bertha Kizer Weathers. He was a 1933 graduate of St. George High School and served in the State Guard. He was in the grocery business in St. George first with Edward's Market then the Clover Farm and he retired as the Owner of Weathers Piggly Wiggly #51. He was a member of St. George United Methodist Church where he was the treasurer for over 52 years and upon his retirement he was named Treasurer emeritus; member of Claudia Kizer Sunday School Class, Men's Bible Class, and Methodist Men's Club. Mr. Weathers was a member and the past president of both the St. George Lions Club and Businessmen's Club, was a former Jaycee and served on the St. George Town Council. He was an active supporter of the Boy Scouts in St. George and was awarded the Silver Beaver from the Coastal Carolina Council. Surviving is his daughter, Shirley W. (Mike) Phillips, grandchildren, Melissa P. (Chip) Marchant and Michael K. Phillips, Jr.; two great grandsons Brody and Benjamin Marchant all of St. George; sister, Lillian (Paul) Hutto, St. George; brothers; Fred (Mae) Weathers, of Summerville; Darus (Cathy) Weathers, of Folly Beach; brother-in-law, Harry M.(Jean) Behling of St. George and a number of nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to St. George United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 506, St. George, SC 29477 or the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060.
