Edward Simmons Obituary

Edward Theodore Simmons, Sr. MT. PLEASANT -Mr. Edward Theodore Simmons, Sr., 97, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, passed away on October 5, 2025. Mr. Simmons served in the United State Army and became a combat veteran in the Korean War. For his exemplary service in Korea, he earned a Bronze Star from the Department of the Army. The Bronze Star is a high-ranking personal award for heroic or meritorious achievement for service in a combat zone. Following his military service, he earned a Master's Degree in Education and went on to serve as a principal in the Charleston County Public School System. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of more than 50 years, Betty Simmons. He is survived by his son, Edward Simmons, Jr., and his sister, Dr. Eleanor Quash, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Born the eldest of four children to Theodore Simmons and Thelma Hoursey Simmons, he was also predeceased by his brothers, Dr. Charles Simmons and Dr. Robert Simmons. A private funeral service will be held for the family. Interment will take place at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464.
