Edward Livingston Obituary

Edward Rutledge Livingston N. Charleston - Edward Livingston was born October 17, 1935, in Charleston, SC, to the late Alberta B. and Philip Henry Livingston. Ed is survived by his four children, A.J. Livingston, Edward Livingston II (Rosie), Patricia Marek (Randy), Sandra Henry (Charlie); 7 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 43 years, Joyce; his brothers, PH Livingston, John Ashe Livingston, James Randall and Alberta L. Bradley. Ed attended North Charleston Elementary School and Carlisle Military Academy, graduating his senior year at Williston Elko High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force and started Port City Auto Supply in 1958. Ed's passion was Auto Racing and he was a Legend of the Dirt Track Midget Car Racing. He also drove for Reynolds Tobacco Racing Team and in 1959 won 13 consecutive races. He later drove independently and was named Nascar's Rookie of the Year in 1963. Ed was a Mason and Past Master of his lodge in 1973, an Omar Shrine Temple member as well as a member of the Shriner's Honda Patrol. He was an avid airplane pilot. He also loved scuba diving and had the first chartered scuba club in Charleston, "The Charleston Reef Raiders." We loved our Dad and D-daddy and will always miss him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital in Greenville, SC, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. A Graveside Service will be held at Carolina Memorial Gardens, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406, will be held on Friday at 11:00 am. Back in 1968 Ed heard that Popeye was dating a high school girl and he asked Popeye what the hang are you doing and Popeye said she's Casey Moore's daughter and Ed said Oh! then that's ok. What crazy and wonderful memories of those times. A few months ago my granddaughter and I saw Ed sitting in his front yard and I stopped and when we got out of the car,y'all know Ed, he asked me who this beautiful girl was ,and he couldn't believe she was Popeye's 28 yr old granddaughter! I know anyone who ever knew him has a story to tell and he will live in my memories forever. To the family, I am so sorry for your loss and hope the good times and love will carry you through life.

Please accept my deepest sympathy and condolences to the whole family. I have been a customer of Port City Auto Supply for many years. I always enjoyed it when i went there, To me it was like stepping into a bygone time. I remember he had a Cosworth Vega out back. And many vintage parts in side. He will always be remembered and missed.
